The Maruti Suzuki Dzire has achieved a cumulative production milestone of 35 lakh units in India, becoming the fourth model from the automaker to reach this figure. It joins the Alto, Swift and Wagon R, which have also crossed the same production mark.

The compact sedan took approximately 18 years and nine months to achieve the milestone. Currently in its fourth generation, the Dzire received its latest generational update in November 2024.

Maruti Dzire production journey

Production of the Dzire commenced in January 2008, ahead of its market launch in March that year. Initially sold as the Swift Dzire, the model dropped the Swift prefix with the introduction of its third generation in 2017.

The sedan took around four years and six months to reach its first five lakh production milestone in July 2012. The pace subsequently improved, with the next five lakh units being manufactured in just two years and nine months. It crossed 15 lakh units after another two years and three months.

Production growth slowed during the following years, with the COVID-19 pandemic also affecting manufacturing and sales activity. The Dzire reached 25 lakh cumulative units in June 2022, approximately five years after crossing the 15 lakh mark.

From 25 lakh to 35 lakh units, Maruti Suzuki took another four years and four months. In comparison, producing the first 10 lakh units had taken the company seven years and three months.

Maruti Dzire engine, features and price

The fourth-generation Dzire is powered by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 83 HP. It is also available with a factory-fitted CNG option, which develops 70 HP. Both fuel options are offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox and an automated manual transmission (AMT). The sedan competes in the compact sedan segment against the Tata Tigor, Honda Amaze and Hyundai Aura.

Crossing 35 lakh units highlights the Dzire’s sustained presence in the Indian passenger vehicle market. Its production journey also reflects the model’s ability to maintain demand across multiple generations, despite changing customer preferences and increasing competition in the segment.
